Indian dye house takes Monforts stenter for open-width knits

Following the recent trend towards the finishing of circular knitted fabrics in open-width format, Tirupur, India based commission dyer and finisher Sri Gayathri Colours has recently installed a Monforts Montex 6500 stenter for heat setting and finishing. The aims of the investment in the high quality German machinery were to reduce wastage and improve quality, in a knitting region which has traditionally finished circular knitted fabrics in tubular format.

French warp knitting machine engineering company Schinasi International Textile Machines (SITM) claims to have developed the world’s finest weft insertion device for a tricot machine in gauge E36 (36 needles per inch). The company which is based in Chanteloup les Vignes , a half hour train ride from central Paris, is claiming the machine as a ‘world first’, as until now the finest available gauge for weft insertion tricot machines was 32E.

Professor Dias holds the Chair of Knitting in the School of Art & Design at Nottingham Trent University and directs the activities of the School’s Centre for Research in Advanced Textiles (CReATe).
